Question on Training / Knowledge

I just have more of a quandary here but ties into our operational change space and hope I can get some good conversation going here on how you all manage things. With that said... We have a "problem" internally where we spend tremendous time hand-holding people through filling our their change reque...

Change and Haas/SaaS

Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted but we have had a recent push due to a company reorg to reinvigorate the change process through various improvement projects (FINALLY!). We have one major project that was just kicked off and I'm in the process of building our 2015/16 roadmaps for further ...

Averages of change types

Our management is very interested in the industry 'averages' of emergency and standard/pre-approved changes (Gartner, Hackett, CobIT, etc). They seem to think that by comparing ourselves against others is an indication of success. I've pointed out in the past that this is not a true barometer of suc...

Thanks Diarmid. This was the very conversation I had with my manager about the topic yesterday. Unfortunately we have a tendency to try and compare ourselves against other organizations to measure our maturity and performance. While this can be useful, I agree that it can make us complacent and lose...

Industry averages on KPI's

We have been tracking some very specific KPI's against Unplanned Changes and Emergency Changes over the last 18 or so months. As we are approaching year end, management has requested that we see how our trend looks against that of other global companies (we process ~10k changes per year). When we be...

I asked a similar question some time ago.... http://www.itilcommunity.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5135 . The answer to most of these questions often begins with "it depends". If your emergency changes are preventing or reacting to Major incidents then you need to look at the cause ...

What do you consider to be acceptable?

Our organization is having a hard time coming to a consensus on what an acceptable percentage is for both failed and emergency changes. While we all strive for zero, we know in a realisitc world that it is simply not possible. I've tried to get some information from Gartner and other similar organiz...

Prod vs Non-Prod

I'm sure this has been discussed so my apologies if I am rehasing a conversation but could not locate one. We are in the midst of a discussion between change management and a functional group on this. Here's a quick summary: Change Group: -Believes that the changes against non-production environment...

Pre or Post implementation reviews

With our process, we allow changes scoped as low impact (no user impact/no outage) to proceed through the process after a technical review of the change request has been completed. We have a debate in our team right now surrounding whether we as a change team should be doing reviews of the changes a...

Thanks for the input guys. If the economy over here were in a better state of affairs, I'd probably look strongly at leaving and going to something with a bit more focus on proper change management. But alas, that's not the case. We will still maintain a change management team but no dedicated chang...

CAB and outsourcing of IT

Our IT organization is very much at a cross-roads and depending on who you talk to (based on ITIL knowledge/skill), you get a different answer to the subject. What we have, is our IT organization is in the midst of a global IT outsourcing project for all systems identified as global and some larger ...

The problem is the sheer size of our organization. We have well over 50k employees spread out across nearly every continent. Users see email as spam and rarely read them. We have portals however they are so complex, nobody uses them. Lots of issues way outside of my paygrade to resolve.

Customer / User notification of change

I'm curious to find out what you all are doing to notify your customers/users of an upcoming planned (or unplanned) change. We have developed email templates which contain the information necessary to the business. The process however, while improving, is still in the dark ages. We used to have the ...

We have been running a virtualized CAB (electronic) for the last 15 months for 2 of our 4 regional CAB's. We have found it quite successful and manage it via our internal company blogs utilizing a polling feature for the members to vote. I track who visits the forums to not only vote but also to vie...

Salary Research

I'm needing to do a quick comparison on salary for a Change Management Coordinator (specialist). In doing standard Google queries, I'm unable to find anything relating to IT (only organizational change). Can anyone point me to a good source of information which contains salary data for the USA for t...
