Hi All,

I just joined this forum. I worked as change coordinator for 3.4 years(also as configuration coordinator) and I am looking for change manager role now.
I was wondering what questions are asked in a CAB meeting and who are the attendees. And how does the approval from different teams is done. Can anyone please explain me giving an real example?? Your help is really appreciated.

Regards
Akhi

I hope this is not an exam question, because there are as many answers as there are people.

The generic answer should be easily derived from reading the ITIL books, and so I will not go to the bother of developing an "improved" version right now. If you can give a clear indication of what/how well you understand the role of the CAB, and then provide a context for your question, it may be possible to offer some useful ideas.

If it is a presentation you have been asked to do for a job application, then you would be lying if we provided an answer although you would probably be found out if the employer was worth working for (and please tell me where I can apply for this job).

Diarmid,

Thanks for the reply. it really helped me to express more about what I wanted to know.
It is not an exam question. I read ITIL books and I know who are the attendees(Change manager. service staff, application manager, finance manager, release manager, technical staff/experts)I have read this from book. But, I wanted a real life example on how the call goes. And I wanted to know what kinds of questions they ask for a change.I have book knowledge but never had an opportunity to know what exactly they talk in CAB meeting and how it is run.
If possible can someone demonstrate an example scenario of any change and what are the possible questions a change manager will ask in order to check if that particular change is ready to be approved or rejected.

Thanks in advance.

Typically the way in which i would manage the CAB is by ensuring that the following is covered:

Overview from the representive of the RFC, What, Why, When, How etc.

Ensure that benefits, impact, testing, backout, justification, schedule, imp plan etc is all covered.

Ultimately as the CM you need to be convinced that this RFC is the right thing to do for your company, as well as taking CAB Attendee's views/challenges etc into account before making the decision as to whether to approve, reject or defer.
