Does ITIL and/or Event Mgmt define or explain how to react to say... catastrophic events caused by Mother Nature (hurricans, tornados, etc.)? OR...what can folks offer for best practice that works within their companies? I can tell you, working in the insurance industry we need to be able to react to unplanned events and ensure our policy holders do not see any negative interruptions to processing. But in general terms...is there a best practice as it relates to handling change activity you could share?

I'd say you should have a recovery plan for such possibilities ready, with all the steps to be performed, all the contact info for responsibles ready, back-ups for the former defined and so on. Then you should seek to try it out at least once a year to see if it does work and also examine carefully for any SPOF's might be found in it.

Check the ITSCM for your needs.
