Hi - new member here, trying to figure out what path makes the most sense for my situation.
I have 25 years of experience in tech support, most of that involved in helping manage large systems. I recently switched jobs to join an outsourced Remedy development/support group at a shop with a 100% customized system - nothing off the shelf. Despite having a custom system, the customer is asking the IT group to work towards becoming more and more ITIL compliant. In Dec '09 I passed the V3 Fundamentals exam in preparation for this job change. We're being strongly encouraged to continue studying ITIL. Each ITIL certification helps bolster the credibility of the IT shop in the customer's eyes. I understand that we can mix and match courses from the two paths to some extent, but once I pick a path, I'll probably stay that course. Here's the question -- Am I right in thinking that for a toolset developer, the capability path seems more directly applicable than the lifecycle path?

Yep - I reckon you're on the better of the two paths. This being said, don't ignore the SOA and Managing across the lifecycle modules. At least someone from the team needs to understand the big picture and talk to the business. It might as well be you!
