Seems a very good discussion. It's good to read different opinions, concept and/or understanding of DSL.
I would like to seek your help to guide and give me a better understanding of DSL as I wanted to level up my knowledge from being an Asset Management Specialist to Configuration Specialist
To my understanding, CMDB is a central Database repository of Configuration Items (whereby some would be treated as Asset).
Can you help to provide me an answer to the following?
- Is Definitive Software / Media Library a physical storage i.e. server where the Soft copy of Authorized SWs are installed?
- OR is DSL part of CMDB where we update the version of SW which links to the Physical storage of the Software?
VMware Service Manager 9x is the current tool being used in my organization (Who is currently on the edge of decision to restruct according to ITIL Standard).
- I wanted to seek help on How we can start implementing DSL and CMDB??? (Though there is a CMDB but is not link to any discovery tool. Yes it's true, populating manually is tedious and would cause discrepancy but it's in the radar)
All ITM process is mature except for Configuration management due to the fact that everything was done in Manua.
Hope someone can help.
Regards,
Definitive Software Library
